STORAGE HINTSNO-NO's

Store items off of the floor when possible, metal shelves are great in this instance. Use pallets or lumber turned on edge to allow ventilation. Cover the cement floor with cardboard, instead of rugs, as the cloth will draw moisture.
Pack boxes full and snug. Place the largest boxes on bottom.
Use all of the space available, including the height of your storage unit. Stand sofas and mattresses on end, take legs off of tables, and take bed frames apart. Remember - anything that comes apart is easier to store, and doesn't take up as much space.
Try putting smaller boxes in and around larger objects such as furniture and appliances.
Prior to storing, inspect for rodent nests in items to be stored. Check under couch cushions, inside springs and bedding.
Place mothballs around and through the stored items.
All stored items should be clean of food stains and food particles so they won't attract rodents.
Keep boxes of clothes off the floor and store in well ventilated boxes.
Cover all bedding and mattresses with plastic.
If possible, cover furniture with a blanket or some kind of cloth.
